Who Will Care for the Pregnant Women in California Who Want to Keep Their Babies?

Many pro-life pregnancy centers share a common goal. It is simple, but admirable: to give women the help and hope they need to give their baby life in the face of an unplanned pregnancy.

So, why would California force these pregnancy centers to advertise for something that undermines that goal?

Pro-life pregnancy centers in California offer much-needed resources and information to pregnant women free of charge. That includes diapers, wipes, maternity clothing, and baby blankets. Some of these centers also offer valuable information and support through childbirth education, emotional support groups, Bible studies, adoption resources, parenting classes, information on STDs, information on natural family planning, and healthy family support. The centers that are medically licensed can provide pregnancy testing, prenatal vitamins, ultrasound examinations, medical referrals, STD testing, and health provider consultation.

You would think that California would view these services as a benefit to the community.

Yet, in 2015, California passed the so-called “Reproductive FACT Act.” This law forces medically licensed pregnancy centers to post signs advertising that California offers free or low-cost abortions – in up to 13 languages. Not only that, but the signs must include a phone number where women can call to get more information.

The law also forces pregnancy centers that are not medically licensed to put a disclaimer in their centers stating – in 48-point font and up to 13 different languages – that they do not offer medical services. They also must post this disclaimer in all advertising, is defending the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) and its affiliated pregnancy centers in California before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Government should not be permitted to force its citizens to speak a message that violates their faith.

Besides, if these centers are forced to shut down, who will be there for the women who want to keep their babies?

Hint: It won’t be the abortion industry, which benefits financially when a woman aborts her baby.

The fact is that targeting these pro-life pregnancy centers actually provides California women with fewer options.

Pro-life pregnancy centers aim to provide women with the resources they need to move forward with their pregnancy. They work to empower women to make the most informed decision by providing for their material, emotional, and spiritual needs. They want women to know they are not alone in their pregnancy.

California claims to promote “choice” for women, but by targeting these pro-life pregnancy centers, they are making it clear that the only correct “choice” they want to see women make is abortion.
